Restaurants in Tupelo MS

Johnnie’s Drive In

This was Elvis spot. It was however, closed when we visited, but it must be popular. The cars kept coming in to see while I peered in the windows. They serve BBQ.

Johnnie’s Drive In is an All-American dinner where Elvis liked to eat. It’s also one of 12 significant sites in Elvis’ formative years in Tupelo marked with bronze plaques on the Elvis Presley Driving Trail.

Elvis and his friends enjoyed dining at Johnnie’s Drive-In. You can still enjoy the food Elvis liked to eat and even sit in the Elvis booth, which sports a photo of Elvis sitting in the same booth.

Romie’s Grocery

We know that Mississippi is known for catfish and their southern charm. We were pleased to find both at Romie’s Grocery. As a food photographer, I will say the plates weren’t “pretty” but the food was so good I packed up my catfish, grits, fried tomatoes and I ate them for breakfast. I never take food with me, especially while on a writer’s trip. I just couldn’t resist having it one more time. The portions were plentiful. The entrees were outstanding. The service was exceptional.

I have never seen a cheese and sausage plate-like theirs, and I can’t imagine how they have it so reasonably priced. There wasn’t anything that we ate that I wouldn’t order again, so send me your stuffed mushrooms, fried green tomatoes, burgers, steak, cheese grits, and catfish.

The chef knows how to impart their talent into each dish and when they say a taste of south in your mouth what they mean to say is a meal that is into you.

So sit down for a meal that heals and music that penetrates the soul. Come one and come all but come hungry and leave elated.

Romie’s Grocery opened on May 16, 2005 providing every guest with the best Southern Cuisine and Southern Hospitality. They offer patio dining, live music and dinner specials every weekend!

Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen

We ended up at Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen. The food and prices were good. I loved the vibe of the place, and the menu was a soulful combination of your favorites prepared with a twist of inspiration. We left stuffed and pleased.

Kermit’s Outlaw Kitchen is owned by Chef Mitchell McCamey and takes a rough around the edges approach to blending wood-grilled styles of cooking, set against the backdrop of historic downtown Tupelo. They offer ever changing dishes and cocktails.
