Best Root Beer Float Recipe

The hot sun is kissing your cheeks, and the sweat is rolling down your back. You are riding your bike over the last hill on your journey home. You are almost there. You are almost able to taste that sweet thirst-quenching caffeine free beverage as it covers your tongue like a beach towel on the sand. It is made from a blend of herbs, bark, spices and berries to achieve its signature taste. This beverage was created to quench the thirst of spectators of a celebration of World War 1 Veterans during a parade on June 20, 1919, by Roy Allen. You are at that moment Incredibly thankful for Roy Allen as you pedal faster toward your reward for a job well done, a paper route complete, or just following that rule mom set forth to stay off the main road and go directly to your friend’s house without stopping for anything!

Do you think back to your childhood, fondly? Do you remember the bike rides in the blazing sun, skinned knees, getting back up again without crying all because you had the protection of Wonder Woman Underoos? I do, and I reminisce about the days spent with my friends without a cell phone, tablet, or electronic. The heat of the sun on our backs, the cool dips in the pool where the lifeguard always blew their whistle for us to slow down. I am not sure where our parents were, but everyone knew where we were it was evident by the pile of bikes at one house or another.

We traveled in packs. We were packs of lively, jovial, determined, renegades; that ruled the road on our bikes. We could travel faster and go further than our counterparts today. We had the ability to jump through sprinklers, pedal quicker than the stray dog, and ring a doorbell and hide. We were children. We didn’t have a worry or care. We only cared about our next treat.

I have fond memories of A&W Root beer floats. When I look at them, I think about the summers of yesteryears. I think of the whipped cream that always ends up on your nose as you go in for a sip. The way the first sip covers your tongue in sweetness. The sensation of the carbonation as it dances down your throat. I think about every summer memory I have, and the good ones end in a Root beer float.

Several years later with a new found appreciation for people who didn’t appreciate having their door bell rung, children pedaling over their front lawn, and strangers playing in their sprinklers. I still enjoy an A&W root beer float. I am grateful for Dr Pepper Snapple Group because they offer the flavors I love with over 50 brands that are synonymous with refreshment, fun, and flavor and in my case memories.
