Wash and prepare any other fruit that you will be using. Cut harder fruits (e.g., peaches or pears) into chunks. Softer fruits like strawberries can be used whole.
Place the fruit into the saucepan with the apples.
Bring to a simmer on medium heat.
Lower the heat and continue to simmer until fruit softens.
Mash the fruit with a wooden spoon or a potato masher.
Continue to simmer on low heat and mash fruit until it reaches your desired consistency.
