I was looking for lunch and while ideas abounded

My hunger was for something much more well rounded

Not only should it taste good but should also feed my soul

I wondered if something like this exists in a bowl

I ran into Walmart and looked all around

In the soup aisle for sure lunch could be found

 

Now alone in my house while dining in, the holidays I will recap

I will think about that guy who was jolly and bright

who came down our chimney singing that one faithful night,

I think about the gifts that were wrapped in hurry

and then as always unwrapped in a flurry

I remember the elf who made mischief of one kind or another

I think about how grateful I am to live a life like this

I work at home and work is what I do from morning until night

but I can’t think of anything that isn’t  just right

I can spend more  time with  my kids and still earn a living

I even have time to work on generous giving

 

Here dining in at home, I see laughter and love

I also can see something stuck on the rug

I see gum in her hair and underwear left over there

I see food on the floor and I see a lunch that has been left

The child I have to chase because they have left their pencil case

I see something that I need to get off the little ones face

I see bills to pay and the sun shining over this day

I see all these things as I sit at my desk eating my lunch

What a wonderful and wild and lovely bunch

I pick up my spoon and smile as I think of my clan

I am taking care of me and them the best that I can
