Does your son cook a meal that he can be proud of?
This is the summer that I am teaching my son to cook. I know you are excited ladies. I intend to make sure my son can cook a meal that anyone’s mom would be proud of. Why? I really wanted to spend time this summer with my oldest son. He is growing leaps and bounds, and his voice is changing. I still see him as my little boy, the one that put his underwear on his head when we were potty training, not the straight A student with a heart of gold that stands beside me now. I see that time is passing me by. I know that with each day he will become more of his own person and less of the little boy who roared like a dinosaur whose cheeks stored his meal. He will become a man, and I want to make sure he knows how to take care of himself. It is a tough world out there and the more skills I can teach my children the better. I do realize his attention span is short, and honestly, his budget will most likely be small. You know us, we believe in living below our means but still enjoying the life we have. I came up with an easy, budget friendly meal that can be made in minutes, but the memories will last long after. I believe that the time we have in the kitchen now sharing a passion I have will creep back into his mind and make him smile long after he moves out of our home.
Here’s my idea for a budget friendly meals for kids to cook, a super delicious and easy to make Italian Chicken Wrap Recipe.
We headed into Walmart and picked out the following items:
Wish-Bone® Italian Dressing
Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Chicken
TortillaLand® Flour Tortillas
Lettuce
Tomatoes
1/2 cup Shredded Cheese (He likes Mozzarella)
We are going to make an Italian Chicken Wrap. I will say this recipe easily converts into a salad or a stand-alone entree. It is easy to make and requires ingredients that he should always have on hand
The first step is to cook the TortillaLand® Flour Tortillas. These are available in the refrigerator section of Walmart. You put them in a medium heated pan and turn them every 30 seconds or so. They will begin to fluff up. My son loves to make these and dip them in hummus. This recipe we are just going to crisp them up a little. You will turn them once they start to turn a golden brown.
Then once these cool a little. You just add the Tyson® Grilled & Ready® Chicken. I love these because it’s so convenient that they are grilled already, plus it’s so delicious and perfect for an easy protein filled meal. I then cut the tomatoes, add the lettuce, and sprinkle the cheese on the chicken. The final touch that you just can’t do without is the inclusion of the Wish-Bone® Italian Dressing which will give it an extra zesty boost of flavor.
It is so sinfully great but so easy to make. It isn’t the man that makes the meal it is the meal that makes the man.
As you think about today and tomorrow, be mindful that we only have so long on Earth. It is my passion to make memories with my children and help foster the development of skill sets that will enable them in the future. I may or may not be training him to take over the cooking in the future but for now, I will enjoy every minute that he chooses to spend with his mama.
