I know many households (ours included), have their “go to” items they pull out when it is time to keep the kids busy. Some of our favorites are playdough, markers, crayons and plain paper. We have an uncountable number of coloring books but, both kids prefer plain paper.

These items are simple to pull out when needed and they can take minimal effort to do.

Breaking out of the same old routine

While that is fantastic to have those in your arsenal of things to do, if they get pulled out repeatedly they will become boring. This is why I like to keep a few other things “hidden” to pull out every once in awhile. One of those things is my treasured “Rainy Day Arts and Crafts” book. Inside I can find simple science projects and more hands on things to do as well.

As a former childcare teacher I have quite of few books to refer to but, by far my favorite are the ones that say “Rainy day”. Those seem to have more of a variety in them than other kids craft books. In these types you will find things like easy recipes, to games, to crafts and projects.

You can find many books that focus solely on one type of topic but, I personally prefer the ones that have the bigger varieties in them.

Where can I find these books?

There are so many resources to find books.

I am pretty hands on when it comes to choosing my resource books. I prefer to look at them and page through them.

If you just want to sneak a peek at them you can find some at your local library. If you are in the market to buy some and keep them on hand, you have so many options.

First, you can check second hand book stores. Here you will find great deals on them. You can also check regular book stores. The selection here may be bigger as well.

If you don’t mind not being able to page through them, you can order online as well.
I personally believe that it is not possible to have too many resources when it comes to keeping kids busy. The more you have on hand, the less often you are bound to hear “I’m bored”.
