Food Photography list
I have become a food photographer. I never thought that would happen. I am learning more each and every day. I really enjoy photographing food. I believe that it is just like anything else you need knowledge, practice, patience, equipment, and did I mention a lot of practice! I am so into cooking and food photography I have a site called cooking in bliss so check that site out. I found the key to great food photography is great looking food. Then you need the right light, setting, and the right lens. I am learning each day and I believe I am close to the perfect picture.

My Equipment Because People Want to Know
These reduce the glare when you are shooting glass
This is one of the best investments. I have shaky hands and this gives me the ability to take images with a huge range of motion. This is a must have. I can’t live without item. I would save up instead of buying junk!
Vanguard SBH-250 Magnesium Ballhead with Sliding Quick Shoe
Vanguard Alta Pro 263AT Aluminum Alloy Tripod Legs with Multi-Angle Central Column System
This is what I started with and I still use it to take product pictures. It makes taking picture and controlling light easier.
LENS:
I am so glad I saved up and bought this lens it has an amazing ability to capture food images. I can’t explain how in love with this lens I am.
Canon EF 100mm f/2.8 Macro USM Lens for Canon SLR Cameras This is my favorite by far but a bit expensive!
This is my take everywhere lens it shots nicely but is a bit heavy. I find I can take great close ups and get nice detail far away as well.
Canon EF 24-105mm f/4 L IS USM Lens for Canon EOS SLR Cameras
This is the lens I bring with me when my kids are on stage. It isn’t useful for food photography and it came in a kit I bought at one time.
Canon EF 85mm f/1.8 USM Medium Telephoto Lens for Canon SLR Cameras
This is my favorite lens. It is heavy but incredible.
This is a no brainer if you do food. You should not touch your camera while playing with food. I also let my kids click the button so that keeps them out of my picture.
Remote Shutter Release Cable for Canon Camera
This is really helpful to make sure my computer is tethered to my camera. I shoot using lightroom so I can see what I am doing on a large screen. This item bridges the gap between the camera and the computer.
AmazonBasics USB 2.0 A-Male to A-Female Extension Cable (9.8 Feet/3.0 Meters)
I use these to hold onto my swanky prints and to keep placemats tied down.
Cheaplights 6 PCS 3.75″ Spring Clamps
I lost all my pictures once and realized I needed a wifi card just in case. It works with your smart phone to upload the pictures to it.
This is a great lens for food photography. I also use it for portrait photography. It was my starter lens but I like the 100 macro and use that one all the time.
Canon EF 50mm f/1.8 II Standard AutoFocus Lens – Gray Market
I keep the lens I am not using in this
I always have cards to spare…

This is to prevent my lens from being scratched
Tiffen 58mm UV Protection Filter
