Online Homeschool Curriculum
I am an eclectic homeschooler. I love learning outside of textbooks, I dislike worksheets, and love learning from literature. We also though in some learning from programs on the computer and up until now really did not use any online homeschool curriculum much. And just a little bit of online learning programs. I am really glad that I was able to give the Standard Deviants Accelerate, SDA, online homeschool curriculum a test drive. I don’t think I would ever completely switch over to an online curriculum, never say never right. However I will definitely be adding this curriculum into the mix to help with reviewing or for a different perspective on concepts my children might be struggling with. After all that is one of the best parts of homeschooling, being able to switch up curricula if something just isn’t working well for our students.
SDA has all of the following courses available:
Arithmetic Grades 3+
Fundamental Math Grades 4+
Algebra Grades 7+
Earth Science Grades 6+
Biology Grades 7+
Chemistry Grades 9+
US History Grades 9+
English Composition Grades 9+
Nutrition Grades 6+
AP Biology Grades 11+
AP Chemistry Grades 11+
AP US History Grades 11+
AP American Govt. Grades 11+
AP English Composition Grades 11+
But, if your homeschool is anything like mine then your children don’t neatly fit into grades for most subjects so you may be able to use more courses and materials from SDA for your child than what is labeled above. For example, my son is 9 and legally in 3rd grade. His progress in math fits well with the Arithmetic Course. Although, his studies in math have gone deeper into multiplication and division than what is in the program it gave me a great chance to fit in some review but more importantly some assessment. He does not do well with long math tests on paper but did respond well to taking the quizzes online in the SDA class.
For US History, I found some of the topics very appropriate for my son even though we haven’t even gotten beyond the Revolutionary War. We have only studied the settlement of America, the French and Indian War, and the beginnings of the Revolutionary War and times leading up to it. Again we used SDA as a way to review but in this case new information was also introduced. My son loved it. He was able to share facts with me that we had not covered in our other curriculum. I also caught him jumping ahead as he is very eager to study the Civil War so when we get there he will already have some base to start from.
Overall, I would recommend this online homeschool curriculum to other families. I would like to see more computation problems in the math classes. I love the writing assignments though. It is a great change of pace from typical curricula. Please let me know if you have any questions about our homeschool or about Standard Deviants Accelerate in the comments below.
