Tropical Fruit Sorbet
I don’t know about you but I am a gal who is determined to make it myself if I can. In fact, a friend of mine will not go to craft shows with me any more because she says every time I find something I like I decide I think I can make this myself. I am a do it yourselfer all the way whether it is refinishing a table, sewing a pillow, or recreating some delicious dish that I had at a restaurant. It is a bit of a challenge to see if I can make something on my own. So when my children found a new frozen treat at the pool concession stand that costs $3 a pop and I couldn’t find it at the grocery store anywhere I decided I could make my own. The frozen concoction they love so much is tropical fruit sorbet served in an orange or lemon rind bowl. I can do this! I can make a tropical fruit sorbet in an orange bowl! Challenge accepted.
How to make Tropical Fruit Sorbet
You only need one ingredient to make this delicious tropical fruit sorbet. Yep, just one. The only ingredient you need is DOLE Tropical Fruit in Light Syrup and Passion Fruit Nectar.
Only one ingredient! What could be easier or more convenient than that? If you want to freeze and serve the tropical fruit sorbet in orange or lemon bowls then you will need oranges or lemons too. But you can serve this in any bowl and skip the oranges or lemons. My kids love eating sorbet this way so that is how I decided to serve it.
First step, pour the fruit and all the juice into a blender.
Then blend until smooth. It is important to make sure you really blend well so that your sorbet does not have chunks in it unless of course you want chunks of fruit. No way could I get away with chunks of fruit with my kids so I just made sure to blend it until it was very smooth.
I cut 3 oranges in half and scooped out the fruit. Then I put the orange halves in a muffin tin so they would not tip over and spooned the blended fruit onto the orange halves.
Put the muffin tin in the freezer for a few hours or overnight. Before serving let the tropical fruit sorbet cups thaw for a few minutes to soften the sorbet.
DOLE Canned Fruit comes in several varieties. In addition to tropical fruit (our favorite) you can also find mandarin oranges, mangoes, and pineapple in the canned fruit aisle of your favorite grocery store. I really want to try making this sorbet with mangoes. Doesn’t that sound good? DOLE Canned Fruit is also perfect for adding to cottage cheese, making smoothies, and of course fruit salads. Did you know it is also great for baking? Having a few cans of fruit in the pantry is an easy and convenient way to be prepared to make your favorite desserts. What desserts do you make with canned fruit?
