Candy Fairy to the Rescue + Free Printable Candy Fairy Poem

Crinkle, crackle, crinkle, squeal! The familiar sounds of trick or treat night when all the candy is dumped on the floor and all the kids (ahem and parents too) fish through the loot to find their favorites. Chocolate, taffy, lollipops….SUGAR! We all love Halloween as evidenced by the bazillion Halloween themed posts on Pinterest and I am no different. I love Halloween and trick or treating with my little ghosts and ghoblins as much as the next person. What I do NOT love is ALL that candy. What do you do to rein in the sugar monsters? How do you remove the temptation to indulge in mini chocolate bar after mini chocolate bar. In our house it is the Candy Fairy to the Rescue.
Does the sight of all this candy make your teeth ache? Do you have nightmares about your children’s teeth rotting in their heads? I know I did. After our first Halloween with our first child I was overwhelmed with how to handle all the candy. Was it fair to take it all away? I know it would be the best thing for our child’s health but after the cute little bumblebee went door to door collecting all that candy it just didn’t seem right. Luckily a friend let me in on little secret and now I am sharing it with you. The Candy Fairy can sweep in and help you get rid of all that candy and also help you keep your kids teeth healthy. Let your children pick out a set number of their favorite candies. I usually just give them a small container and let them fill it. Then the rest of the candy goes out to the front porch before they go to bed.
The Candy Fairy comes during the night while they sleep. She takes all their candy and leaves them with a special toy. She also brings a new toothbrush, floss, and mouth wash. She leaves a cute little poem to encourage them to take care of their teeth. Here is our candy fairy poem:
We have used this trick for the past 8 years and it still works like a charm. Even my 10 yr old who no longer believes in the Candy Fairy plays along because he wants the toy. It also helps that my children LOVE LISTERINE® Mouth wash, they think it is fun to swish and spit. I know that I will eat too much of that candy. I know that all that candy is bad for my oral health. I know that poor oral hygiene affects how I feel about myself and that more than 8 in 10 Americans agree with me and feel that oral health issues are embarrassing (85%). In fact, more than 9 in 10 say that they feel better overall when their mouth feels clean (93%). I definitely agree with that.
