Chicken Recipes for Kids: Pretzel Chicken
Chicken Recipes for Kids
Chicken 101 ways!! Isn’t that always the post we are looking for?! Well, I don’t have that many today, but here is one more to add to your list! Having seen a few recipes for Pretzel Chicken floating around the web, I decided to let them inspire me and concoct my own version. I never really considered letting my daughter help me in the kitchen when it came to meat until I tried this recipe a couple of months ago and she was very eager to help. I’m kind of a germaphobe, so the thought of her being near raw chicken did make me sweat a little! However, she takes directions very well and is really good at listening when it comes to helping in the kitchen. I do always have her wash her hands when we are done just in case.
Chicken Recipes for Kids: Pretzel Chicken
Pretzel Chicken
Ingredients
- 2 chicken breasts I have a family of 5 and we had leftovers!
- About 2 cups of pretzel sticks crushed up (or pretzels of your choice)
- 2 tsp. onion powder
- 2 tsp. garlic salt adjust to taste
- 2 tsp. black pepper
- 1 Tbsp. yellow mustard
- 1 Tbsp. honey
- 1 egg
- 2 Tbsp. melted butter
- splash of milk
Instructions
- The first thing you will want to do is slice the chicken into tenderloin strips, or whatever size is to your liking.
- While I was doing this, I gave my daughter the pretzels sealed tightly in a gallon size plastic bag and a rolling pin. She got to work crushing the pretzels into bits. She LOVES this part!
- Before starting on breading the chicken, I lined a cookie sheet with aluminum foil and sprayed it with cooking spray. Preheat your oven to Broil at 450 degrees. You may find that the temp needs to be adjusted according to your oven.
- Season the chicken tenders with the onion powder, garlic salt and pepper. In a separate bowl, mix 1 egg(slightly beaten), mustard, honey and a splash of milk. My helper enjoyed stirring this mixture, but wasn't real fond of the looks of it.
- Place the crushed pretzels in another bowl. For us, I would dip the chicken in the egg mixture and place it in the pretzels. She would take a spoon and spoon the pretzels onto the chicken, and pat them down. Then place the tenders on your foil lined sheet. Next, drizzle melted butter over the tenders.
- Place about 10-12 inches under the broiler and cook for about 7-8 minutes, being careful not to burn the pretzels. Turn the tenders and continue cooking until the internal temperature reaches 165 degrees.
- You may choose to serve your Pretzel Chicken with a dip of your choice, but they are super tasty all by themselves! Enjoy!
