Crafting with Kids: Engaging the Senses

Meet Stephanie! She’s a 24 year old stay at home Mom, who couldn’t ask for a better blessing than to be home with her daughter!! Their favorite things to do together is working on art projects and they enjoy sharing them with people at Crafting with Bug!! In her free time she enjoys reading and scrapbooking!!

Engaging the senses!

Spring is upon us! FINALLY!!! I am so excited! This means we can get REALLY messy!!!

I love doing art outside. It brings a whole different feel to a simple project that you would do inside! Plus, there are a couple added bonuses!

The obvious: MUCH easier cleanup!!! Another bonus: it engages a whole different area of your little ones brain! For instance: If you are outside doing your project and your little one smells flowers, later down the road when they smell the same smell they will connect that with the project you were doing at the time. Thus, bringing back a fun memory for them!!!

This can happen indoors too but those smells tend to be more familiar to your little ones unless you spray some sort of fragrance in the area they will be working. This works the same way as being outdoors.

The fragrances in the air become associated with the project they are working on and can later help the child recall what they were working on when they first smelled it.

This is so cool to watch in action!!! I’ve seen it with Bug already and she is only 2 ½!!! A familiar smell will present itself and then she is asking me if we can do whatever the project that is paired with that smell again!
