Indoor Birthday Party Ideas
This is a sponsored conversation written by me on behalf of Pillsbury™. The opinions and text are all mine.
It was raining. The kind of rain that sounds like a herd of elephants is moving quickly across your roof. The rain doesn’t bother me. It would have if the party I had planned for today were outside but after being rained out last year. I decided that I need to have indoor birthday party ideas. I went to work right away creating a list of things that I could do the following year because having kids that were set to play sports outside descend upon your house was something I wasn’t going to do again. I am still not sure how cake ended up on the fan but as they say, “kids will be kids.” This year the kids will be busy, and I will not need a day of rest after the party to recover. In case you were wondering I didn’t know about the cake until we turned on the fan.
Now you understand why having a plan to host a party indoors is better than doing it because you have to. It is, in fact, easier to plan an indoor party. You can use the space you have without worrying that a party guest will end up at your neighbors.
There are a couple of things to consider:
1) What is your theme? I like to create a theme that involves stations. I find the busier the kids are, the less trouble they get into.
2) Pick a day and time for your party. I would also suggest limiting your party to two hours. If you have a longer celebration no matter how many indoor birthday party ideas you have it could be a disaster.
3) Pick the right kids. You want to think about the number of children you would like to invite. Do they get along? That is very important to consider since space is limited and so is your patience.
4) Then you need to think about how much your budget is. I always set an amount I plan to spend for each kid. Then you can determine what you will spend on decor, food, and activities.
5) Think about the indoor party activities and then about the space you have available.
6) Make sure the indoor birthday party ideas can be made easier for a child who needs more help and harder if a child like to speed through things.
These are the inexpensive party ideas I used when planning my daughter’s party. I looked around the house and determined what things she enjoyed doing and what I already have regarding supplies. She likes to paint, and she likes to cook. I knew I could easily create a party around art. We decided on a painting party. We were going to paint our cupcakes, cookies, and canvas.
This inexpensive party idea started with baking the cupcakes with the children. You will do this first, so they can cool, and they can put on the frosting. The cupcakes are easy to frost with Pillsbury™ Filled Pastry Bag in three delicious flavors Vanilla, Chocolate fudge, and Cream Cheese. They are each 16 oz and very reasonably priced at Giant Supermarket or any Ahold banner store (Stop & Shop or Martins).
They are so incredible you do not even need to know how to make a simple frosting. The work is already done for you. I know that not having to make the frosting and then trying to put it in the frosting bag will allow me to use all the frosting I have. I swear I lose half of it when I try to transfer the frosting from one place to another. The bags are great, and even tiny hands can manipulate them to create frosted baked goods.
Once you have baked your cupcake and cookies and they have cooled put them on plates in front of the children. I used these paint trays so the kids could paint the Pillsbury Pastry Bag Vanilla frosting and decorate their treats. This activity took some kids a long time and others worked through it quickly. If you have children that work immediately, challenge them to make a cupcake look a certain way like a princess or create a fairytale land.
Once they were done with decorating their treats, then we began painting our pictures. I did a follow me type of painting session where the children made minions. You can learn how to paint something easy and then lead a group of people through the painting. Once the paintings were done and drying, then we had a tea party where we enjoyed our decorated treats while listening to music. The party was perfect it was on a budget and my daughter was able to enjoy her favorite activities, food, and her friends.
There are so many things you can put frosting on from a cupcake, cookies, cakes, to whoopie pies, pies, and other fall treats. The Pillsbury Pastry Bag can be used to make three frosting designs the star, rosettes, and the waves. I can tell you my children enjoyed using these Pasty Bags and their creativity was only limited by the allocated time for the party. I should also note during the party I may have put frosting on the rim of my cup of hot chocolate just to see what it tasted like. I also want you to know the Pillsbury Pastry Bags are gluten free, so all of my children’s friends were able to join in the party. I just made gluten free cupcakes and a rice cereal treat that they decorated with the pastry bag.
Childhood should be filled with sweet memories. That is why I picked a party that I could not only enjoy watching my child make memories, but I could be part of them. The best memories I have are of my parents, grandparents, and my sister baking with me. I can’t imagine my daughter having a better time than she did at her party and I was able to plan a very successful party on a limited budget. You can grab your Pillsbury Filled Pastry Bag at Giant, make sure to check for coupon here or you can get some at any Ahold Market and watched the smiles they create!
