Life Happens

A moment in time is fleeting but a decision to live life minute by minute is imperative. Our once in a lifetime moment came to us by surprise. We had two amazing children. I was embarking back toward my career from my stint as a stay at home mom. I had begun to build my professional portfolio and ease my way into a part-time job. Then we found out we were expecting again. The expectation and timing of having another child was worrisome financially and emotionally. We sat down as a couple and I knew my husband was elated because he would have as many children as possible and I wasn’t as excited. I am a planner and I had planned for two children. We had the perfect house and car for two children. We had the perfect table and the perfect names already and having a third child meant we were out numbered.

There are some things you can plan for and some things are left to fate. On that day my husband held my hand and said, “This is meant to be.” I thought about it and decided how you handle a surprise correlates to what your experience will be. It was a rough pregnancy coupled with many hospital stays and visits. This baby was a fighter and so was I. The moment we met him our lives haven’t been the same since. We now believe in miracles and that every plan you make you need to have a back up plan and a back up for that plan.

The way you handle a surprise is as important as the plan you have in place. It is important to me to provide the best possible experiences for my children. I work hard to teach them how to love with their entire heart. I hope they live every moment thinking about the endless possibilities in their future. Our son taught me the greatest gifts are a surprise and every time he says “I love you more.” I say, “I loved you first and longer.” I know that you can protect your children from failure or heartache but you can purchase protection to assume some of the risks associated with surprise. I know that with proper insurance I have the reassurance I need to worry about the less important things in life like will the stickers he just applied to the window come off.
