We haven’t even left for our Spring Break cruise to the Bahamas and we’ve already started planning our next vacation. The question is “how are we going to pay for it?” One way I plan to contribute to making our next vacation happen is to faithfully use my new Kroger REWARDS Visa for our purchases this year. If you’re anything like me, you find yourself constantly squirreling away “found” money for something special. Well, our something special is going to be another fun vacation!

Before I received my Kroger REWARDS Visa, I started adding up all the ways it would allow our family to save up for that next special trip. My first purchase was at Kroger where I bought the ingredients for our family’s favorite DELUXE NACHOS SUPREME recipe. One of the easiest ways to save money at the grocery store is by purchasing generic store brands. At Kroger, these are part of the Kroger Family of Brands products (i.e. Kroger brand, Simple Truth, Private Selection, PSST).

Personally, I have found the Kroger brand items are of the same quality as name brands but at substantial savings. These Kroger Family of Brands products allowed me to earn triple points for the ingredients for this one simple recipe. The seven Kroger Family of Brands items I bought netted me 30 POINTS!

In addition to savings at your local Kroger, you can earn points for everyday shopping. Everyday shopping purchases lets you earn free groceries, every time you use it!

Fuel Savings: As a Kroger REWARDS Visa® cardholder, you’ll save an additional 25¢ per gallon of fuel for one year, each time you redeem 100 Fuel Points. This is a fantastic savings for one full year. If you visit the pump weekly, you’ll see significant savings per gallon using this card (for the first year).

Grocery Savings: In addition, when you use your Kroger REWARDS Visa® Card , you earn FREE groceries with REWARDS checks, sent automatically from Kroger 4 times a year. Every 1000 REWARDS points earns $5 in free groceries (REWARDS checks sent quarterly). Check out this calculator to see how much you can earn! By stashing away all the money I’m saving using my Kroger REWARDS Visa for all my grocery shopping, we’ll be on track for another fun vacation. Now, before I forget, here’s our family’s favorite NACHOS SUPREME recipe:

NACHOS SUPREME

INGREDIENTS

1 lb ground beef
1 packet taco seasoning mix
1 can (14.5 oz) refried beans
1 cup shredded cheddar cheese (divided)
½ cup diced plum tomatoes
½ cup sliced black olives
½ cup diced onion
½ cup sliced jalapeno or banana peppers
1 cup sour cream
Tortilla chips or flour tortillas

INSTRUCTIONS

Preheat oven to 375 degrees

Prepare the ground beef according to the instructions found on the taco seasoning packet

Spread the refried beans in an even layer in the bottom of a 2-3 quart casserole dish

Top the refried beans with half the shredded cheese(½ cup) and diced onions

Layer the taco seasoned ground beef on next

Top the seasoned ground beef with the remainder of the shredded cheese (½ cup)

Layer the sliced black olives, diced tomatoes, and jalapeno/banana peppers on top

Bake in 375 degree oven for 20 minutes (or until heated through)

Top individual servings with sour cream and serve with tortilla chips or rolled up in a flour tortilla for a burrito

 

This recipe has always been one of our family’s favorites and there is usually just enough leftover to pack up for our work lunches.
