Catch Up on Your Summer Reading Bucket List with Audible Audiobooks

You are reading Good Night Moon and they are reading A Tree Grows in Brooklyn. You try to figure out what the plot is in their story but your mind drifts back to that darn balloon, cat, brush. You feel awkward. You were once well read, articulate, interesting and could talk for hours on the latest novel, fictions, and non-fictions. You used to have time for that until motherhood.

You remember the first time you read a real novel. The one that you stayed up until the sun came up reading. You remember wanting to be that character tearing through the pages so quickly it was a wonder you didn’t end up sliced with paper cuts. You know the sense of accomplishment you had seeing that book to the end. Then you wanted another one and another one until you had read every book that author penned or until your allowance was nil. You needed to see what happened next. You couldn’t stop until you knew. It was that moment that first book that piqued your interest that created a lifelong reader. It became your passion.

That was until three little people created in “passion” filled your days with their needs, wants, desires, and their love. It was that love for them and the responsibility of being the parent that read to their children 30 minutes a night coupled with all of the other things “us” moms do that left you without much time to pick up a book.

When you did pick up a book, it instantly became decorated with lunch, hands gifted with artistic mediums or ones that became filled with stickers or drawing “just for you mom”. You would shrink inside trying to figure out how to explain it to the librarian for the 9th time why your book looked like it went through the washing machine. You swear you told them books do not float so, please do not put them in the bathtub or try to wash them off yourself. It may have been the sippy cup that leaked on the last one. You know you swear you put on the top tight. Then you began to buy books to hide the embarrassment of having to return them to the library.

You had a stack of books on your bed. You read a page or two here and there. You place the book in your bag. You lose your place. You then move the stack of books to dust. You move them back the stack grows larger. You then look on Pinterest for ideas on what to do with stacks of books. You feel guilty because you haven’t read these books, you have paid for these books, and now you need to do something with them.

Then you hear about a solution to your need and desire to return to those books you love. You find Audible. It enters your life, and you can’t believe you didn’t know about this service. You can now listen to all the books that are on your counter. You can listen to them while waiting for soccer practice, while cleaning the house, while driving, and most importantly you can listen to them while your kids are watching all those annoying cartoons. You can again return to the world of an adult with knowledge, conversation, and authority.

I am so excited about Audible that I made a huge list, and I have already listened two of the books on this list. Thanks to a long car ride. I am also currently learning Spanish using Audible with my children. Did I tell you they have audiobooks for your children as well? Did I share as a former teacher that children that struggle with reading could use Audible to learn to read? Yes, they can. You grab them the paper copy at the library and then put on Audible. Viola! We have exposure.

This is my list, and my goal is to catch up with my book club, so I do not have to spend the entire time eating and making sure my mouth is full when it is time for me to interject my opinion. I can now say more than I can see why the author used alliterations here. I am 100% sure there weren’t alliterations present but people felt bad for me, so they didn’t correct me.

The good news is you can try Audible for FREE! Why not listen to the books my family is going to listen to this summer. How about learning a new language with me for Free. How about being able to talk about something or learning something or getting lost in a good book because you deserve it!

Which one of these would you listen to first? Oh, why choose? I am listening to The Nest and the Spanish Language Program. You can pick the perfect audiobook by topic, listening length, genre, author, popularity, and more. It is the perfect gift and the perfect cure to finding yourself again.
