Gluten Free Dairy Free Pie Crust Recipe
Gluten Free Dairy Free Pie Crust Recipe
As many of you know my husband has adopted a gluten free and dairy free lifestyle, so now I am learning to adapt to his new dietary needs. So it has been a learning process for me, and something I am happy to share with anyone else that might need the same type of recipes. Over the weekend I had a craving for pie and I knew I had to find a gluten free dairy free pie crust recipe and after trying a few out I found one that I loved and worked like a charm! Making a pie crust from scratch is so easy. If you didn’t make it you would have no idea that this recipe was gluten free and dairy free!
Here is how to make a quick and easy gluten free dairy free easy pie crust recipe:
You Will Need:
- 2 Cups Gluten Free flour of choice. (I personally love using Almond Flour, it has a great flavor)
- 2 tablespoons granulated sugar
- 2 teaspoons xanthan gum
- 8 tablespoons coconut oil
- 4 teaspoons apple cider vinegar
- ½ cup cold water
- pinch of salt
Instructions for making the gluten free dairy free pie crust:
Step 1: Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F. Lightly grease a 10 inch pie pan.
Step 2: In a medium sized bowl, combine your gluten free flour, xanthan gum, salt and sugar. Set aside.
Step 3: Melt your coconut oil until liquid (but not hot). Add your liquid coconut oil to water and cider vinegar, stirring gently to combine. Add your wet and dry ingredients together.
Step 4: Mix your dough by hand until combined. (It will be slightly more wet than a normal dough, so be prepared.). Roll out your dough until about 1/4 of an inch thick.
Step 5: Carefully place your rolled out pie dough into your pie pan. Crimp the edges.
Step 6: This is an optional step, if you want to precook the crust without filling, chill crust in the freezer for about 30 minutes. Line the crust with parchment paper and fill it with pie weights (or if you don’t have those dried beans work great!). Bake in preheated oven for 20 minutes. Remove paper, along with weights or beans, and bake an additional 15 to 20 minutes or until bottom is golden.
Tada! See? I told you, quick and easy! Now you have a gluten free dairy free pie crust recipe to use with all your favorite pie recipes. Enjoy!
