Ask A Marathon Mommy: Victory!

“I tried my hand at being a work at home mom, but in 2009 I decided that being a stay at home mom is what works best for me and my family, at least for now. As my kids like to say, I’m “The Boss” of the family, which includes my husband of 9 years, two daughters (ages 4 and 6), and a giant goldfish named Princess Leia. My girls are beautiful and curious and wild and exhausting, and life is never, ever dull! I love reading, traveling, trying new restaurants, and shopping for bargains. I’m also training to run my first marathon in February 2013.”

Yesterday was my first ever half marathon. And guess what – I won! Okay, so technically the actual first place finisher was a shirtless 24 year old boy named Matt, who has 2% body fat and finished in 1:10:52. And technically, my finish time was more than twice that. And if we’re being ultra technical, I came in 640th place (out of 2000 finishers). But I set a goal for myself, and I met it. I pushed my body to do something I wasn’t sure it could do. And I crossed that finish line, blistered feet and all, with my head held high and tears of pride and relief in my eyes. And in my book, that makes me a winner. 26.2, here I come!
