Crafting with Kids: Post Vacation Craziness

Vacations are a great time to make memories with family and friends. The worst part of vacations though? Unpacking, and getting back to “normal life”.

Normal life for us, usually consists of my kids wanting to do art projects before I even think about getting our suitcases unpacked. Thankfully, when my kids ask in the post vacation craziness, I can say yes.

If you are anything like me, you take so many pictures you don’t know what to do with them all. I try really hard to capture almost everything so I can choose the best ones later.

If your kids are begging you for something to do after you get home but, you still have what feels like a 3 mile long to-do list, this should keep them busy.

How do we do it?

All it takes is for you to print some of the pictures from your most recent trip. You can just use your home printer for this or, if you prefer it is fine to get them printed somewhere. It doesn’t take anything fancy. If printed at home, I recommend using card stock so the pictures aren’t so flimsy. Also, if they are printed on regular paper and regular white glue is being used it will soak through the pictures.

Give your kids the pictures and let them create their own scrap book of the trip. With this they can be as simple or as complicated as your child is able to do. Since it is super easy to customize this project, it is perfect for any age.

Tips

For the younger kids I recommend glue dots and more supervision. As they get older you can just let them go and check in every so often to see what they are creating. Once it is finished you can use a 3 hole punch and then, tie all the pieces together with ribbon and they have their very own book from the trip!

See it from their perspective

For the olders kids, it is fun to let them use your camera or, give them their own and see the trip from their perspective. I let my 7 year old use my phone camera frequently, and it is amazing how awesome most of her pictures turn out.

Occasionally, I will let my 2 year old take a few pictures too. While they aren’t much more than of his feet, he has fun and that is what counts!
