How to Cook a Ham in the Pressure Cooker
Note: This recipe is for a precooked ham. I buy those all the time to save time. They still take about 2 hours to cook in the oven. That is a long time that you need to plan for before eating dinner. I never have two hours unless it is the weekend but I often crave ham so I figured out how to cook a ham in the pressure cooker.
How to Cook a Ham in the Pressure Cooker
It is actually very easy. You will need the following items.
-
- Precooked ham 6-7 lbs
- Packet it comes with for glaze (Or 1/2 cup of brown sugar 1/2 tbs of cinnamon, 1/2 tsp of nutmeg)
- Can of pinapple rings
- Water
- Foil
- Sling made with the foil or this thing is the best. The blue meatlifter. This is my favorite pressure cooker accessory pack.
- Water
- Pressure cooker – I use a Power Pressure Cooker XL
Optional Potatoes and herbs if you want to cook your meal together.
1. If you are cooking your potatoes with your ham. The put in the potatoes first.
2. Pour in the 1 cup of water (Whether you have potatoes or veggies or not.)
3. Place a large sheet of foil on your counter (It must be big enough to wrap your ham)
4. Put your ham in the foil. Do not wrap the top. You will leave it open to pour in your sugar and pineapple mixture once it is in the pressure cooker.
5. Mix the packet ingredients or the brown sugar, cinnamon, nutmeg with 1/2 cup of the pineapple juice from the can of pineapple. You can use the pineapples later or put them on the ham in the pressure cooker. Our kids like their pineapples not cooked with their ham. I like mine cooked so I do half and half.
6. Then put down the trivet. If you do not have a trivet the sling made of foil or the silicon one will work. If you do not know how to make a sling. This is an excellent post How to Make A Sling
7. Place the foil wrapped ham on top of the sling
8. Make sure the foil will contain the liquid you are about to add.
9. Pour in the liquid mixture.
10. Close the Foil
11. Shut the Pressure cooker
12. Turn it to 10 minutes for your pre-cooked ham that is 6-7 lbs
13. Let the pressure release when it is done
14. Use your mitts to take off the top
15. Unwrap your ham and let it cool
I do this during the week so I can use the ham to make other recipes. These are some of my favorite recipes with ham.
